Ferschnitz is a small Lower Austrian village south of Amstetten, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it issued its own Notgeld to compensate for the catastrophic coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. These local emergency notes were legal within their issuing commune only — worthless the moment you crossed into the next parish.
Buchdruckerei Kielar was a regional commercial printer, not a security press. The designer Robert Leitner was almost certainly a local engagement rather than a professional banknote artist.
