Comments

Enzesfeld is a small Lower Austrian municipality, and this 20 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Austrian Notgeld issued from 1919 onward as small coin nearly vanished from circulation in the post-war economic collapse. Thousands of communes printed their own emergency fractions, most through local or regional printers. The involvement of Jakob Reisenbichler — a Viennese printer rather than a provincial shop — places this issue a step above the more rudimentary municipal efforts, and Robert Leitner's design credit is notable in a series where most pieces go unsigned.
