| 正面描述 | The obverse is printed in black letterpress on a wave-pattern underprint ground, centred on a fine line-engraved vignette of Eggenburg's main square; a smaller vignette of the town's Gothic church facade appears in the upper left corner. The issuer's title inscription runs across the top, with the denomination '20 Heller' at upper right and the validity date below. Three printed signature lines for the Vizebürgermeister, Bürgermeister, and Gemeinderat, each bearing a handwritten signature, are arranged at the foot of the note. |

Eggenburg's 20 Heller notgeld was printed locally at the Pressevereinsdruckerei — the press association's own printshop — which was typical of the small Austrian municipalities that handled their own emergency currency production after the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left towns starved of small change. The Stadtgemeinde had both the administrative motivation and, unusually, a nearby press capable of the job.
Austrian notgeld of this period circulated as genuine municipal obligation, not merely as collector bait — that came later, once towns realized philatelic demand made the series profitable.
