Drosendorf is a small walled town in the Waldviertel, the remote northwestern corner of Lower Austria. Its municipal notgeld was issued in 1920 as the postwar currency collapse left small communities across the former Habsburg lands chronically short of usable small change — the central authorities simply could not keep fractional coinage in circulation fast enough to meet local demand.
The JPR prefix in the Jaksch/Pick reference places this firmly within the Austrian local notgeld corpus rather than the broader German emergency money tradition, though the two overlap considerably in this period. Locally printed Waldviertel issues tend to show higher attrition rates than urban equivalents; paper quality from provincial printers was inconsistent.
