Aigen im Ennstal is a small market town in Upper Styria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities it issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortage that followed the First World War. The Gemeinde series ran in several color variants, with the light green printing distinguishing this 20 Heller value within what was otherwise a functionally identical set of denominations.
Jaksch catalogues these Styrian municipal issues with particular attention to color differentiation, since the variants were not reissues but simultaneous parallel printings intended to reduce counterfeiting at the local level.
