Reverse description The reverse, printed in the same violet-blue ink on plain cream paper, bears a six-line commemorative poem in Gothic script referencing Beethoven's last summer sojourn in Gneixendorf, attributed 'H. A.', followed by the bold Gothic heading 'Kassenschein' and the full issuing authority 'der Gemeinde Gneixendorf bei Krems a. D. über 20 Heller'. A block of legal text in German confirms the note is interest-free, pledges the municipality's assets as guarantee, and specifies redemption terms at the municipal cashier between 15 and 31 December 1920. The notation '2. Auflage' (second edition) appears at the upper left.
Reverse lettering 2. Auflage.
Einst schritt ein Großer über unsre Fluren.
Ein schlichter Denkstein kündet dessen Spuren.
Längst ging die übermenschliche Gestalt
Ins Ewige ein. Doch immerdar umklungen
Bleibt unser Ort von den Erinnerungen:
Beethovens letzter Sommeraufenthalt!
H. A.

Gneixendorf is a small village — now a suburb of Krems an der Donau in Lower Austria — that would be entirely obscure were it not for the fact that Beethoven spent his final autumn there in 1826, finishing the String Quartet Op. 135 at his brother Johann's estate. The village's notgeld has nothing to do with that connection; it was issued purely out of necessity during the acute coin shortage that swept rural Austria in the postwar years, when municipal and local authorities across the former empire printed their own emergency small-denomination paper rather than see commerce grind to a halt.

The Jaksc cataloguing suffix "llc" indicates a specific variant within the 20 Heller denomination — most Gneixendorf notgeld series are collected as sets, and incomplete runs are common.
