| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bears the Slovak national coat of arms — a pointed shield displaying the patriarchal double-barred cross rising from a three-peaked mountain — flanked on either side by decorative leafy linden branches forming a partial wreath. The circular legend SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA arcs around the upper periphery, while the four-digit date is inscribed at the bottom of the field, flanked by two small dots. The design, engraved by Andrej Peter, presents the heraldic motifs in a clean, sculptural relief against a flat field. |

Slovakia's wartime bronze issues, including this 20 halierov, were produced under the cleric-nationalist regime of Jozef Tiso — a nominally independent state operating in near-total subordination to Nazi Germany. The National Bank of Slovakia was established only in April 1939, weeks after the rump state's declaration, making these early coinage issues part of a rushed effort to build the material infrastructure of a new country whose sovereignty was circumscribed from the start.
Production ran across three years before wartime metal pressures began reshaping the denomination structure entirely.
