Czechoslovakia's monetary system was built almost from scratch following the state's declaration in October 1918, and the early 1920s saw extensive experimentation with both designs and alloys before production coinage was finalized. This zinc trial strike from 1921 reflects that exploratory phase — zinc was being evaluated as a cost-saving base metal, though it was ultimately passed over for the circulating 20 haléřů in favor of iron and later copper-nickel alloys.
