Louis Napoleon Bonaparte was installed as King of Holland by his brother in 1806, a posting he took far more seriously than Napoleon intended. He learned Dutch, adopted the name Lodewijk I, and repeatedly defied imperial trade directives to protect the Dutch economy — ultimately forcing Napoleon to annex Holland outright in 1810, which ended the kingdom and terminated this coinage mid-series.
The extremely short reign window and forced annexation kept mintages low across all denominations. Fr#320 is among the scarcer gold issues of the Napoleonic client states.
