Obverse description Severed head of Saint John the Baptist presented in left profile upon a salver (platter), rendered in low relief with fine detailing of facial features and hair. The grim devotional imagery is characteristic of the coinage of the Order of Saint John of Malta. The circular legend is divided by a six-pointed star to the left and a small cross to the right, with the inscription reading partially visible around the periphery. The coin exhibits a beaded border encircling the entire design.
