Vorderseitenbeschreibung Blue-grey notgeld note printed on plain paper, with a decorative guilloche underprint forming a central rosette pattern. The denomination "Zwanzig Goldpfennig" is set in bold Gothic script across the centre, flanked by large numeral "20" on each side. A text block above states the note's authority and gold-backing clause, referencing the Reichsfinanz-Ministerium, with the equivalence "4,20 Goldmark = 1 Dollar" noted below the denomination. The issuer "Handelskammer Leipzig" and date "Oktober 1923" appear at the lower centre, with two manuscript signatures above the printed titles "stellv. Vorsitzender" and "Syndikus"; the printer's imprint "MAX BRESLER" appears at the lower right margin.

Anmerkungen

Leipzig's Chamber of Commerce issued this 20 Goldpfennig note during the stabilization period of late 1923, when Germany's hyperinflation had rendered Reichsmark-denominated notgeld functionally worthless almost the moment it left the press. Gold-denominated emergency issues were a practical response — tying face value to a stable unit of account rather than the collapsing paper currency. Chambers of commerce across Germany issued similar gold-pfennig scrip in this period, giving local commerce a workable medium of exchange while the Rentenmark transition was underway.

Max Bresler was a Leipzig-based printer with an established notgeld output; the guilloche underprint here is functional security, not ornament.
