Albania's 1927 coinage program was overseen under the direct influence of Italian advisors attached to Ahmet Zogu's government, with Rome effectively bankrolling the new monetary infrastructure through the Banca Nazionale d'Albania — an institution controlled by Italian capital despite its name. Pattern pieces from this series were struck in multiple metals, platinum among them, almost certainly as presentation or test strikes for ministerial or diplomatic use rather than any genuine circulation proposal.
The platinum prova of this denomination is one of the rarest survivors of that program. Confirmed examples are so few that auction appearances are measured in single digits across the past several decades.
