The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued commemorative silver under its own name and under the Banque Centrale du Congo banner since the early 2000s, with the program largely administered through European distributors — most pieces never circulate domestically and are struck exclusively for the collector market. This mammoth series falls squarely in that category.
Colorization on these issues is applied after striking, typically by a pad-printing process. KM#339.1 designates the colorized variant, implying at minimum a .2 companion struck without color treatment.
