Beschrijving keerzijde Two naturalistically rendered Stegosaurus dinosaurs are depicted in a prehistoric landscape, one shown in close-up profile in the upper right field and the other in full body facing left in the lower central field, surrounded by ancient flora and rocky terrain. The series title PREHISTORIC LIFE arcs along the upper border, while the inscription STEGOSAURUS 157-148 MIO YEARS BC appears in the upper inner field alongside the date 2023. A geological timeline legend encircles the design along the rim, noting the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods with their respective date ranges.

Aanvullende informatie

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has issued collector coins under its own authority since the late 1990s, but produces virtually none of its circulating coinage domestically — most is struck by foreign mints on contract. This piece is almost certainly a product of that arrangement, aimed squarely at the thematic bullion and novelty collector market rather than any domestic monetary function.

The stegosaur genus was formally described by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1877 following discoveries in the Morrison Formation — nowhere near Central Africa, which has its own distinct Cretaceous fossil record, including the famous Tendaguru beds of what is now Tanzania.
