The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued a long-running series of wildlife-themed legal tender coins through licensing arrangements with European minting houses — primarily targeting the collector market rather than circulation. The "Scorpions" issue sits within that program, which has produced dozens of distinct animal subjects over roughly two decades.
No DRC 20 Francs coin of this type has ever meaningfully circulated. The country's actual monetary economy runs on Congolese francs in far higher denominations.
