The Institut d'Émission d'Outre-Mer was established in 1966 to manage currency for France's Pacific territories after the CFP franc was separated from the metropolitan system. This piedfort — struck at double the standard planchet thickness — was produced the following year, almost certainly as a presentation piece rather than a circulation trial. Piedforts from IEOM are exceptionally rare; the institution issued them in tiny quantities, primarily for official archives and ministerial gifts.
The Lecompte reference places this among a handful of known examples.
