Obverse description Left-facing bareheaded effigy of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, rendered in the elegant Art Deco style characteristic of engraver Pierre Turin. Her hair is loosely arranged with flowing, wavy locks cascading to the nape of the neck. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE runs along the periphery, divided left and right by the portrait. The engraver's signature P. TURIN appears in small letters in the lower field beneath the bust truncation.
