The Democratic Republic of the Congo has issued collector coins under its own authority since the late 1990s, but produces virtually none of its own circulating silver coinage — these pieces are struck entirely for the numismatic export market, typically by European mints on contract. The Parasaurolophus, a hadrosaurid from the late Cretaceous of North America, has no particular connection to Congolese natural history; the country's name functions here as a licensing vehicle rather than any statement of national heritage.
