Tunisia's gold franc coinage of this period was struck in Paris under the Protectorate administration, which maintained the fiction of Husainid bey sovereignty while French financial authorities controlled monetary policy entirely. Muhammad VI al-Habib, who reigned from 1922 to 1929, was the nominal authority whose name appeared on the coinage, but the Banque de l'Algérie effectively managed Tunisian currency throughout his reign.
Paris Mint production for this type was modest, and examples circulated little — gold specie of this size was largely a transactional instrument for commerce and reserves rather than everyday exchange in the protectorate economy.
