Obverse description Unadorned bare-headed (nude) effigy of King Louis XVIII in right-facing profile, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical manner. The king's hair is styled in loose curls swept back and tied with a ribbon at the nape, consistent with Restoration-era portraiture conventions. The encircling legend reads LOUIS XVIII ROI DE FRANCE with a terminal stop, divided by the bust across the field. The engraver's signature MICHAUT F appears in small incuse letters along the lower truncation of the bust. A horse-head privy mark is present below the truncation on certain issues, serving as a guarantee mark of the Paris assay office.
