Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Louis-Philippe I facing left, rendered in high relief with naturalistically detailed curly hair, engraved by Nicolas-Pierre Tiolier. The king's neck truncation is unadorned. The circular legend around the periphery reads LOUIS PHILIPPE I. ROI DES FRANÇAIS., with the engraver's name TIOLIER appearing at the lower right. The design is framed by a fine toothed border.

Reverse description The denomination 20 FRANCS is displayed in two lines at the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath composed of laurel and oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The mint mark and year of issue appear below the denomination within the wreath. The whole is surrounded by a toothed border. The design is clean and classically restrained, consistent with early July Monarchy coinage.
