Gigantopithecus blacki, the largest known ape to have ever lived, went extinct roughly 300,000 years ago — its existence reconstructed almost entirely from fossilized teeth and a handful of jaw fragments found across southern China and Southeast Asia. No complete skull has ever been recovered. The DRC has issued several wildlife-themed silver rounds in this format targeting the collector market, with colorization applied after striking.
