Belgian military payment certificates of this type were issued for use within the armed forces following liberation, intended to circulate among troops rather than in the general Belgian economy. The separation from civilian currency was deliberate — military scrip could be invalidated quickly if it fell into unauthorized hands, a lesson the Allies had absorbed from wartime occupation experiences.
These army issue notes were not redeemable through the National Bank of Belgium and had no standing in civilian commerce. Short-lived by design.
