Obverse description The field displays a central inscription in Arabic calligraphy arranged in three horizontal registers within an ornate geometric cartouche in the Moorish style, reading the name and title of Ahmad Pasha Bey of Tunisia, the denomination 20 Francs, and the Hijri date 1353. The cartouche is framed by an interlaced diamond-pattern border. Flanking the central inscription are two sprigs, an olive branch to the left and a wheat ear to the right, symbols of fertility and prosperity. The entire design is surrounded by a finely milled inner border and an outer raised rim.
