The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued an extensive run of wildlife-themed silver rounds through third-party mint programs, most produced in European facilities rather than any domestic mint. These pieces circulate almost exclusively among thematic collectors and never approach the issuing country as legal tender in any practical sense. The Acinonyx jubatus — the cheetah — is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN, with fewer than 7,000 individuals estimated in the wild, the majority concentrated in southern and eastern Africa rather than the Congo basin itself.
