The Abbey of Müstair, a Benedictine convent in Graubünden near the Italian border, holds the most complete cycle of Carolingian frescoes surviving anywhere in the world — painted around 800 AD, likely commissioned under Charlemagne himself. UNESCO listed the abbey in 1983.
