| Description de l’avers | Orange and black letterpress note with a central vignette of a panoramic view of Fribourg town below the large intaglio denomination "VINGT FRANCS". Two allegorical female figures flank the central field — a seated figure at left and a standing figure with agricultural attributes at right — each set within ornate frames with guilloche borders. The upper portion carries the issuer title "CAISSE D'AMORTISSEMENT de la dette publique À FRIBOURG" and the payment clause "Il sera payé à vue au porteur", with three manuscript signature lines for the Directeur, Président, and Caissier, and a state guarantee notice with reference to the decree of 15 May 1874 at the lower right. |

The Caisse d'Amortissement de la Dette Publique was Fribourg's cantonal debt-redemption fund — not a commercial bank, and not a note-issuing institution in any conventional sense. That it produced circulating paper currency at all reflects the chaotic patchwork of Swiss cantonal monetary authority that persisted until the Confederation moved decisively to centralize issuance, culminating in the 1881 Bank Note Law and eventually the founding of the Swiss National Bank in 1907.
Fribourg's issues from this period are genuinely uncommon in any condition. The canton was small, the circulation limited, and redemption thorough.
