Aigues-Mortes is a walled medieval town in the Camargue, and the flamant — the flamingo — is native to the surrounding wetlands. The "Principauté d'Aigues-Mortes" is a modern local currency scheme, one of dozens of French complementary currency projects that emerged in the 2010s under the broad influence of the SOL network and regional identity movements. These notes circulate, if at all, within a small commercial network of participating merchants — more civic project than monetary instrument.
Henri Chaisse's signature appears as the sole authorizing credential, consistent with small-scale local currency operations where a single organizer functions as issuer, treasurer, and guarantor simultaneously.
