20 Fillér Ugocsai Világítási Rt., Nagyszőllős

Ugocsai Világítási Rt. was a regional electricity utility serving Nagyszőllős (today Vynohradiv, in western Ukraine), and this 20 fillér token note is one of the rarer examples of corporate emergency scrip issued during the chaotic currency vacuum that followed the collapse of Austria-Hungary in late 1918. With central banking authority essentially suspended and small coin completely absent from daily commerce, local companies and municipalities across the former Hungarian territories began issuing their own fractional paper — legally dubious, practically necessary.

The Adamo MSZK catalogue records only a single type for this issuer, making the series among the most obscure in Hungarian notgeld literature.
