In the upper right quadrant, a circular inset displays an ornate Chinese architectural or decorative motif with the abbreviated legend RF above it, flanked by a curved band inscribed CALENDRIER CHINOIS. The twelve years of the current zodiac cycle, from 2018 to 2029, are inscribed in individual black cartouches arranged around the outer border. The denomination 20 EURO appears prominently in large lettering to the left of center. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a highly detailed high-relief portrait of a rat rendered in a naturalistic style, facing the viewer three-quarters, dominating the central field. To the left of the rat's head, the Chinese character for rat (鼠) appears in relief within a small panel. Surrounding the central motif is a decorative inner ring engraved with scenes depicting the twelve zodiac animals in a continuous frieze. The outer border is composed of alternating floral rosettes and further zodiac imagery against a dark contrasting background. The curved legend ANNÉE DU RAT arcs across the upper border, with the year 2020 at the lower right. |
