Additional information

Vindobona was the Roman legionary fortress established around 15 AD on the Danube frontier, the fortified encampment that would eventually grow into Vienna. This coin is part of Austria's long-running "Romans in Austria" series, which drew on the country's exceptionally rich archaeological record — the Vienna Basin has produced continuous Roman-period finds since the 19th century, including barrack foundations uncovered during modern subway construction in the 1970s and 1980s.
