| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of King Philippe of Belgium occupies the central field, rendered in fine relief with the legend 'BELGIE - BELGIQUE - BELGIEN' arcing along the upper periphery. The denomination '20 EURO' is inscribed in the lower field, with the date '2023' positioned to the right of the portrait. The initials 'FP' and 'LL' appear in the field, denoting the engravers. The design reflects a contemporary official royal portrait style consistent with Belgian euro coinage. |

SABENA — Société Anonyme Belge d'Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne — operated from 1923 until its collapse in November 2001, making it one of the longest-running and then most abruptly terminated national carriers in European aviation history. The airline's bankruptcy, triggered partly by the fallout from September 11 and the failure of its parent Swissair group, left roughly 12,000 employees without work within days. The 2023 issue marks the centenary of the founding flight.
