Saint Barthélemy did not gain formal status as a French overseas collectivity until 2007, meaning this 2004 pattern was struck three years before the island had any independent monetary authority to issue under. Pattern issues attributed to Saint Barthélemy from this period occupy an ambiguous legal space — produced in anticipation of, or speculation about, a sovereignty that did not yet formally exist.
