The territorial name SAINT PIERRE E MIQUELON arcs prominently across the upper portion of the coin in bold lettering. To the right of the shield, the French Republican motto LIBERTÉ / ÉGALITÉ / FRATERNITÉ appears in cursive script arranged vertically, accompanied by the date 2004 and the monogram RF (République Française) below. The word ESSAI appears in the lower exergue beneath the coat of arms, identifying this as a trial or pattern piece.
