The "Natures de France" series launched by the Monnaie de Paris draws on a long French tradition of associating the oak specifically with rural permanence and republican virtue — the tree appears in civic iconography stretching back through the Third Republic. The 2020 oak issue was struck using a selective gold-plating technique on certain relief elements, a finishing method the Paris mint has increasingly deployed to differentiate collector silver from generic bullion.
