Belluzzi was a sixteenth-century military architect from San Marino who became one of the most influential fortification engineers of his day, working under Cosimo I de' Medici and contributing to defensive works across Tuscany. His 1598 treatise Nuova inventione di fabricar fortezze circulated in manuscript for decades before publication, making his ideas influential long before they were formally printed.
San Marino's gold commemorative program has consistently honored figures with a credible national connection, however slender — Belluzzi qualifies by birth.
