Rays of divine light emanate from the upper field behind his nimbus-encircled head, while stylized manuscript pages are rendered in the background field. The inscription CITTA DEL VATICANO arcs across the upper portion of the coin, with the engravers' signatures MOMONI INC. and O. ROSSI appearing in the lower left and right fields respectively, and the Rome Mint mark R visible at right.
