| Reverse description | The reverse presents a finely engraved bust of Saint Francis de Sales (San Francesco di Sales) depicted facing three-quarters left, shown as a bearded bishop wearing episcopal vestments with a pectoral cross, holding a quill pen in his right hand and resting his left hand upon an open book. Rays of divine light emanate from the upper field behind his nimbus-encircled head, while stylized manuscript pages are rendered in the background field. The inscription CITTA DEL VATICANO arcs across the upper portion of the coin, with the engravers' signatures MOMONI INC. and O. ROSSI appearing in the lower left and right fields respectively, and the Rome Mint mark R visible at right. Along the lower exergue, the legend SAN Francesco DI SALES 1567 1622 identifies the subject with his birth and death years, and the denomination EURO 20 appears at the very bottom. |
