| Reverse description | Full-length figure of the winged Genius of Liberty standing facing, nude with a billowing drapery, one arm outstretched toward a stormy cloud from which a lightning bolt descends, evoking Franklin's famous electrical experiments. A neoclassical temple portico appears in the lower left field, while a broken sceptre and cannon lie at the Genius's feet in the lower right, symbolising the overthrow of tyranny. The denomination 20 EURO is inscribed to the right in the field. The circumferential legend ERIPUIT COELO FULMEN SCEPTRUM QUE TYRANNIS arcs around the border, and a three-line attribution in the lower exergue reads SCULPSIT ET DICAVIT / AUG . DUPRE ANNO / MDCCLXXXIV, crediting Augustin Dupré's original 1784 medal design. |
