| Beschrijving keerzijde | High-relief depiction of the American general-in-chief on horseback leading the charge at the Battle of Cowpens, with infantry troops advancing behind him as British adversaries flee in disarray. The composition is closely based on the original medal engraved by Augustin Dupré, then Chief Engraver of the Monnaie de Paris, whose name appears in the exergue as DUPRE INV ET F. The surrounding legend commemorates the victory in Latin, recording the date of the battle as XVII JAN MDCCLXXXI. The denomination 20 EURO and a privy mark differentiating this coin issue have been added to the original reverse design. |
