Reverse description The reverse is divided into two contrasting fields by a vertical line at center: on the left, rendered against a frosted background, appears a left-facing portrait of the Belgian cartoonist Hergé (Georges Remi) in the style of a self-portrait; on the right, set against a polished field, is a left-facing bust of his iconic fictional character Tintin, depicted in his characteristic simplified ligne claire graphic style. The serial number 07-007 appears in a rectangular cartouche at the top center, straddling the dividing line. The copyright notice © HERGÉ/ML is inscribed in the lower left field, while Hergé's stylized facsimile signature runs across the lower portion of the reverse.

Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of Georges Remi's birth, this coin was produced under license from the Hergé Foundation, which has maintained tight control over Tintin-related imagery since the artist's death in 1983. Belgium has a long history of commemorating its cultural figures in silver, but the Hergé centennial generated unusual crossover demand from comic art collectors with no prior interest in numismatics — driving secondary market premiums well above face value within months of release.

Two versions were struck: a standard collector issue and a higher-relief proof. The LA#BEM-13.2 reference distinguishes this as the proof striking.
