Additional information

Hungary joined the EU on 1 May 2004 but never adopted the euro, making these pattern pieces strictly trial strikes produced for submission and internal evaluation rather than circulation. Euro coinage patterns from accession-year candidates were struck in small numbers across multiple denominations to satisfy EU technical requirements and demonstrate minting capability.

The Hungarian Mint in Budapest produced these under conditions that precluded any official release. Most survivors entered collections through mint disposal channels in the years following.
