Lithuania joined the eurozone on January 1, 2015, making it the last of the three Baltic states to adopt the common currency — Estonia had converted in 2011, Latvia in 2014. The timing was deliberately accelerated in part by geopolitical anxiety following Russia's annexation of Crimea the previous year, with euro membership seen as a further anchor to Western institutions beyond NATO alone.
All Lithuanian euro coins were struck at the UAB Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla in Vilnius, one of the few remaining state-operated mints among the smaller EU members.
