Additional information

San Marino issues gold commemoratives almost annually, and most circulate only among collectors — but the Acquaviva castle series draws on one of the republic's genuinely ancient landmarks. The tower at Acquaviva dates to the medieval period and sits within San Marino's smallest castello, one of nine administrative divisions that have governed the republic without interruption since the 14th century.

The .900 fineness follows the standard adopted for San Marino's modern gold program, which resumed in earnest after the republic's 1972 agreement with Italy regulating its coinage rights.
