| Beschrijving voorzijde | Full-length crowned effigy of John the Blind (Jean l'Aveugle), Count of Luxembourg and King of Bohemia, standing facing within an ornate Gothic architectural arch adorned with stylized foliate tracery. The figure is draped in a long robe and holds a sceptre, rendered in a medieval sculptural style. The circular legend reads 'JEAN L'AVEUGLE 1296-1346 JANG DE BLANNEN' around the upper field, with the abbreviated Latin titles 'BOH MOR' IOH' REX' arranged vertically flanking the central device within a beaded inner border. The date 1996 appears in the lower exergue. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The ECU — European Currency Unit — was a basket currency used as an accounting unit within the European Monetary System from 1979 until its replacement by the euro in 1999. Luxembourg was among the smallest EMS members by economic weight, yet issued a string of ECU-denominated collector pieces through the 1990s targeting the numismatic market rather than any circulating function. This piece commemorates Eurocontrol, the intergovernmental organization headquartered in Brussels that has coordinated European airspace management since 1963 — an organization in which Luxembourg holds founding member status.
