Additional information

Albania's ECU-denominated issues of the early 1990s were produced exclusively for the collector market during a period when the country was lurching through its post-communist transition — bank collapses, mass emigration, and the chaotic 1991 food riots all unfolding within the same window. The denomination itself had no legal tender relevance to everyday Albanian commerce; the ECU was a European basket currency to which Albania had no formal relationship.

The X# prefix in the Krause catalog places this outside the regular monetary series entirely.
