| Beschrijving keerzijde | Allegorical composition centered on a classical altar, upon which rest a cornucopia overflowing with coins and an owl, the latter being the traditional symbol of Minerva and learning. Against the altar lean a spear and a shield, emblematic of patronage and protection of the arts and sciences. The design alludes to Schrattenbach's patronage of scholarship and the Salzburg university. The reverse legend SCIENTIARUM INCREMENTO, meaning 'For the advancement of the sciences', arcs across the field. |
