| Obverse description | Draped bust of Archbishop Sigismund von Schrattenbach facing right, depicted in ecclesiastical vestments with a mozzetta, his hair dressed in the baroque manner with long curled locks. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The circular Latin legend reads around the periphery, and the engraver's signature FMK appears in the lower field beneath the truncation. |

| Additional information |
Sigismund von Schrattenbach governed the Archbishopric of Salzburg from 1753 until his death in 1771 — the same archbishop who, famously, employed Leopold Mozart and tolerated the young Wolfgang's increasingly disruptive absences on tour. Large multiple-ducat pieces of this period were not struck for circulation; they functioned as diplomatic gifts and presentation pieces distributed at court, their production driven by political ritual rather than monetary need.
The Zöttl reference remains the authoritative catalog for Salzburg coinage. Type designations within it reflect die differences that matter significantly to completeness collectors working this archbishop's issues.
