| Reverse description | Central effigy of Saint Virgil, second patron of Salzburg, depicted in full pontifical vestments including mitre and cope, holding a crozier in his left hand and a model of a cathedral or church in his right hand, standing upon a plain pedestal. Surrounding the central figure is a wreath of fourteen heraldic shields of the cathedral chapter canons, each separated by small star ornaments, with the engraver's initials F.M. visible at the base of the pedestal. At the top, two crowned coats of arms are joined by foliate scrollwork. The circumferential Latin legend reads SANCTUS VIRGILIUS CAPITULUM METROPOLITANUM SALISBURGENSE REGNANS SEDE VACANTE, with the saint's name SANCTUS VIRGILIUS inscribed in the inner field flanking the figure, commemorating the sede vacante period of the archbishopric. |
