| Reverse description | The reverse presents two enthroned bishop-saints facing one another in full pontifical vestments, each wearing a mitre and holding a crozier, with radiant halos about their heads; they are identified as Saints Rudbertus (Rupert) and Virgilius, the patron saints of Salzburg. Between them, in the lower central field, rises a detailed depiction of Salzburg Cathedral (the Salzburger Dom), rendered with considerable architectural precision. The entire composition is encircled by a wreath of laurel or olive branches, and the surrounding legend reads: SS : RVDBERTUS ET VIRGILIUS PATRONI SALISBVRGENSES, with a cherub's head surmounting the legend at the top. The scene exemplifies the devotional Baroque iconography favored by the Salzburg mint in prestigious multiple-ducat issues. |
